"Pink Ribbons Crusade was founded in early 2000 by Jess and Suzanne King of Austin, Texas. The Kings formed the not-for-profit-charity* because they wanted to make a financial difference in the area of Breast Cancer. They also wanted to honor Mrs. King’s father, Dr. William Shields, who though now retired, had been a well-known breast surgeon in Texas.
Jess King was successful in the cable television industry while Suzanne King had gained national prominence in health-care advertising and public relations. Mrs. King had been an avid collector of Princess Diana memorabilia for many years. When her husband gifted her on a number of special occasions with Diana dresses, it became apparent she had a collection worthy of public notice. To raise funds for their new organization, the Kings devised a novel plan. They assembled Suzanne’s royal collection (including her six Diana Dresses) and created a commemorative exhibit. This exhibit has in the past traveled to invited communities raising funds for Breast Cancer. It has been totally revamped in the past two years and has now become the historical backdrop for "DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES: DRESSES OF CELEBRATION". The collection has taken 25 years to assemble."
